I played Pocket Empires, a smart phone game, and while it was a completely different type of game than Dust is, it had the same idea as Corps/Clans or whatever. They had a Recruitment Chat Channel, exclusively for (as the more astute readers may have figured out) Recruiting. For Pocket Empires it worked well to keep all dialogue of that type in one area, as opposed to having it spill into the World Chat. I think the idea of a dedicated Recruitment Channel in the game itself (right under the local chat or something) would be a great idea, and I think new players should at some point be funneled into this chat area so they can work on joining a Corp right off the bat if they want. I feel it would turn the tables some to the point where instead of Corps having to actively message new players saying "hey, we got a corp, blah blah blah", you would have an area where rookies could go and read what would basically be advertisements for any corps posting. Seems like this would save some trouble for recruiters, and its a nice passive way for sometimes shy rookies to really see what corps have to offer and make a decision to join at their own pace. If needed, posts per player could be limited to say 1 post every 30 minutes (like PE did), to keep the Recruitment Chat from turning into a non stop stream of letters and numbers. This would also give corps more flexibility in conveying what they are all about, as I've noticed some of the corps really don't give you much to go on in their description. I think this would also help small corps out, as the biggest of the big corps most likely won't post at all in this channel, as recruitment for them is (i'm assuming) a totally different ballgame.
2 examples of what you would see in the Pocket Empires Recruitment Chat (made up clan names, don't remember any atm)-
Join Billys Super Clan. Large group of mature players, laid back, like to have fun, 57th in the ranks and climbing. Join Today!

Universal Soldiers is looking for dedicated, full time members with X amount of whatever the point systems were in the game. Extremely competitive, 8th, soon to be first. Contact so and so to fill out application.
That little bit of freedom to post a changeable ad consistently and easily meant you had less clan turnover, since people had a pretty good idea of what exactly the clan they were looking at was all about, and were not surprised by attitudes or requirements when they did join.
I see plenty of Corps here in Dust giving solid, straightforward descriptions of what they are all about, and there should be no confusion over how they play or what they need from you, but I see tons more either being vague, or just not posting a real description at all. |
